The Camp Highland Family

Bill Chapman, Founder

Wife Betsy and children Will(14), Timothy(12), Cole(9), and Nathan(6)

In 1993, while Bill was in software sales, he began taking kids on camping trips on his dad’s property. He quickly began to see the lives of kids changed and impacted in incredible ways through outdoor adventure. Through those early trips, Bill and Betsy caught a vision that would change their lives forever; thus Camp Highland was born! Now, 19 years later, Bill's vision and dedication of investing full-time in building the Kingdom through outdoor ministry is continuously molding camp into a vibrant place to grow.

Danny McKinney, Operations Director

Wife Christy and children Parker(11), Joel(9), and Natalie(5)

Danny started working with Camp Highland back in January 2005 as Director of Operations. He enables the mission of camp in bringing organization to systems in the area of finance and capital construction. Before coming to Camp Highland, he worked with Campus Crusade for Christ for fourteen years in the Atlanta area in campus ministry. He joined staff with Campus Crusade after working as a mechanical engineer for a couple of years.

Gavin Desnoyers, Camp Director

Wife Amanda and children Jackson(6), Morgan(4), Mackenzie(2) & newborn Charis(11months)

Gavin is the Wilderness Camp Director and has been working at Camp Highland since November, 2007. He’s responsible for overseeing on-the-ground camp operations, generally ensuring that our guests are treated to outstanding experience. Gavin is a graduate of Georgia Tech with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, but has been in experiential ministry since 2003 when he moved to Slovakia to do youth ministry and leadership development. His family has been enjoying in all the delights of newborn Charis, and her cute personality!

Zach Bertram, Marketing Director

Zach has been with Camp Highland now for 3 years as Marketing and Communications Director. He graduated from Kennesaw State University with a Bachelor of Science in Sport Management and Marketing. Zach's love for camp ministry and community has prompted him to become a "local" in the little mountain town of Ellijay. His vision is to have camp completely full in 2012. He is working to create greater community involvement and engaging people nationwide to hear and experience what awesome things God is doing through Camp Highland.

Matt Fox, Property Maintenance Director

Matt came on staff in the summer of 2010, and some would say that he is the motor that keeps everything running. Matt is responsible for the daily maintenance, service, and repair of all of the facilities around camp. He is also the chief property manager and basically makes sure things are how they should be. Matt's work ethic and desire to serve others is unmatched in today's world, and proves time and time again that it's not about the facilities that make up camp, but it's about the heart of the people serving!

Jen Clinton, Wilderness Camp Program Director

Jen has served on summer staff for 3 years running and has recently decided she wants to do camp ministry full-time! She graduated from Georgia College and State University with a Bachelor of Science in Outdoor Education. Jen brings experience of all levels, from facilitating groups, to program planning, to trip leading, and so much more. Her passions line up perfectly with Camp since she loves Jesus, kids, and the outdoors! She has a delightful, caring personality that has proven to be contagious to everyone she comes across.

Miriam Camp, Administrative Assistant

Miriam Camp was simply made for the camp life(hence her last name!). She is actually the newest member of the team, coming on board this summer as a fill-in photographer. Well, it didn't take long for Miriam to "drink the koolaid"(as Bill puts it) and is now serving full-time officially as Bill's assistant but using her many talents and skills in all areas. She is a recent University of Georgia graduate with a degree in Photo Journalism. Her servant's heart, mixed with a solid work ethic, and attention to detail, have made her a key team member and a joy to work with.
