As I am sitting her writing this blog post, I'm reflecting on my own mother. I can't help but feel an overwhelming sense of love for the woman who means the most in my life. Thinking of all of the sacrifices she has made over the years to make me and my family happy I am realizing how incredible she is.

I can remember all of the practices she took me to, and how she always made sure my clothes weren't inside out, or my shoes on the wrong foot. She made sure I ate my vegetables and went to church with her on Sundays. She taught me right from wrong. She let me figure things out on my own, but stayed just close enough for when I needed her to show me the way. She was proud of me even when I didn't win. She showed me what was most important in life and how to always do the right thing. She truely is a remarkable woman

This month, take some time to reflect on your mother. Let her know how much she means to you. Let her know how thankful you are for all that she does. Celebrate your mom.

We didn't want to just honor mom on this one day, so we are dedicating the whole month of May to Mom. Here's to you!

Launching from Atlanta we had to check bags containing tools, bolts, and other equipment, all of which had to be under 50 pounds. We had 16 checked bags and crates going to Kenya, plus another 15 carry-on bags. We were a mass of people and equipment, squeezing onto an aluminum cylinder with wings to hop across two continents and an ocean. Amazingly, all of our bags and people made the connection to Nairobi and everything made it to Kenya. That was the easy part, now getting through customs in Kenya with all this stuff - 6 men with carts overloaded with crates and bags - was just not possible without a thorough search to collect a tax on imports. Yet, they let us through without checking one bag...a not so small miracle. 410 Bridge had the perfect size 25-passenger bus waiting for us that fit all 15 people and 31 bags and crates. Opening these crates in front of the men of Kwambekenya was really cool. They didn't know what to think about the nail guns, power saws and drills. These men are so good at working with a hoe or machete or anything with their hands. They were amazed by the power tools and we showed them how to use them and no one lost a digit or limb as a result....another little miracle. For many days, these guys worked along side us, giving up their time to work their own gardens and herds, with great anticipation as to what we were building. We had several spectators each day as well. I asked one of the men what he thought about what we were doing and he said, "We are all very interested in what this will look like. We are very blessed by this, because poor people don't have time and can't afford to have fun." Because this is so different and so unique to the area, the Camp Highland Outpost will be talked about throughout many communities and Kwambekenya will attract many people to come learn about Jesus through something "fun".

This verse became a theme for my time in Kenya. Even before I departed for the trip, God began to remind me of the sufficiency of His grace. I was overwhelmed by the generosity and the willingness of my home church that provided me with more than I needed to go on the trip. God’s grace did not stop there. He was with our team and luggage as we made the journey over the big pond to Nairobi, Kenya. We were once again reminded of his grace when we collected our luggage to find all 30 something pieces had made it safely on the planes and through customs. This verse first came up on the trip around day two or three when Ms. Betsy shared it with us for our morning devotion. God had placed it on her heart to share before we even left for the trip. Unfortunately, Ms. Betsy woke up to her eyes really bothering her. God shared this message through the humility and purity of Ms. Betsy. Even though she was suffering through a physical weakness, God’s grace was sufficient enough to bring her through it. Not only so, he used her in big ways to share his love with the children and women of the Kwambekenya Community.

I continued to see how sufficient God’s grace was for the people of Kwambekenya. On the outside it appeared that they had just enough to survive. Their homes and clothing are meager. Many work just to provide food for their family. Despite this, God has provided for them in many ways through 410 Bridge and many other ways. They may be poor in money and possessions, but they are rich inspirit. I experienced the joy of Jesus pour out of their smiles and the gentle way they welcomed us in. The children radiate joy and I could not get enough of playing, singing, hugging, and holding their precious little hands. It is in our weakness that God’s grace isabundantly sufficient. Thanks to my experience in Kenya, I will never forget this promise.
